Ceramic braces

Today, malocclusion can be treated with different types of braces - some of them, for example, ceramic braces, are very effective and at the same time extremely aesthetic. The reason is that they don't stand out as much as metal braces. How do aesthetic ceramic braces work, how much do they cost and when should they be chosen?

Ceramic braces - what are they and how much do they cost?

What is the characteristic of a ceramic orthodontic device?

Ceramic braces are a type of fixed braces that are attached to the teeth from the outside. From a purely medical point of view, they play exactly the same role as a metal brace. The difference lies in its appearance, because a ceramic device is usually much more inconspicuous. All because their color is similar to the color of the teeth, thanks to which they "merge" with our teeth, becoming almost invisible. In addition, you can choose ligatures that are close to the color of your teeth, which greatly enhances the positive aesthetic effect. However, it is worth bearing in mind that ceramic braces are not completely invisible to outsiders, because the arches placed in the braces are still visible, although of course to a much lesser extent than in the case of metal braces.

Ceramic braces - for whom?

We already know how ceramic braces differ from metal braces, but the question remains, who are aesthetic braces for? Well, they are designed for people who want to take care of their bite while maintaining a beautiful, esthetic smile during treatment. Metal braces can take away self-confidence, because they are very visible against the background of the teeth. At the same time, the ceramic camera is not so conspicuous, so it is willingly chosen by professionally active people who have to monitor their appearance. Ceramic braces can be used in the treatment of various types of malocclusion in people of any age. Nevertheless, the final choice of both the treatment method and therapeutic agents is made by the Dnipro orthodontist in consultation with the patient.

The price of ceramic braces, i.e. how much does a full treatment cost?

Among patients, the question often arises, how much does a ceramic device cost? Undoubtedly, the costs of orthodontic treatment are high, but if we want to use modern, aesthetic solutions, they will increase. We will pay an average of 9,000 hryvnias for a traditional metal appliance, while a ceramic appliance costs 13,000 hryvnias.

To this should be added the costs of a complete orthodontic diagnosis and control visits, which must be carried out approximately every 4 weeks. Please note that in this regard, ceramic braces are no different from traditional ones. Thus, the cost of the full treatment will be higher by approximately 4,000 hryvnias compared to the therapy performed with the help of a traditional metal device.

Should you choose ceramic braces?

Many factors must be taken into account when choosing a specific orthodontic device. In the context of a ceramic appliance, its price can be decisive. It should be borne in mind that aesthetic braces, including ceramic ones, have a number of disadvantages. Due to the delicate color, they can become discolored.

Patients often ask orthodontists if ceramic braces discolor, and if so, how can this discoloration be prevented? Prevention is very important here, that is, excluding products from the menu that can potentially stain braces. They include:

  • fruits - strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries,
  • beet,
  • coffee,
  • Orange juice,
  • colored spices.

While fruit or beets can cause discoloration that is easy to remove, those associated with drinking a lot of coffee, orange juice, or using spices are much more difficult to remove. This should be kept in mind when deciding to install an aesthetic bracket system, because in case of color change, it does not look so effective. Another disadvantage of this type of braces is the size, which is usually slightly larger than that of metal braces.

However, the difference is not very big, and patients get used to the larger size over time. The decision to use a ceramic appliance should be made after consultation with an orthodontist, who will choose the best solution for us. The fact is that today more and more people choose ceramic braces, mainly for aesthetic reasons.

How long does the treatment with a ceramic device last?

The entire process of processing with a ceramic device usually takes from 1.5 to 2 years. In this context, it is not much different from a traditional metal bracket. It should be remembered that the duration of treatment always depends on the specific malocclusion that needs to be corrected. Therefore, it is difficult to clearly estimate how long we will have to wear braces. Nevertheless, to reduce the therapy time to a minimum, other types of devices help - the ceramic model performs mainly an aesthetic function, but does not contribute to the rapid correction of the defect.
