Iron braces

Each of us has probably encountered a person who wore metal braces, that is, the most classic ones, which are most often used in orthodontic treatment. They are extremely effective in the treatment of malocclusion and can be used at any age, and in addition, due to their low price, they are still the most popular among patients.

Metal braces

What are metal braces?

The metal orthodontic appliance is non-removable, and its construction consists of brackets connected to each other by a special orthodontic arch with the help of ligatures. It is this arch, which is a seemingly simple metal wire, that is responsible for orthodontic treatment and the effectiveness of braces, as it exerts a gentle force on the teeth and thus allows the malocclusion to be cured. It is worth knowing that metal braces must fit very well to the teeth, so a special orthodontic glue is used to fix the braces - thanks to this, it is possible to get the correct position and stability of the braces.

How long does orthodontic treatment with this type of device last?

Depending on the patient's age and malocclusion, this term can range from 12 to 30 months. Braces can be a way to treat a misaligned bite regardless of a patient's age, but in the case of the elderly, treatment usually takes a little longer. Many are afraid of discomfort from the operation of the device, but we want to reassure you - in most cases it is very minor and you can get used to it. But it is necessary to constantly monitor the operation of the device and visit an orthodontist, who, if necessary, will replace the orthodontic arch and ligatures.

Metal braces - price

One of the biggest advantages of choosing this type of orthodontic appliance is its low price - at least compared to fixed appliances, which are called esthetics. Its prices start at 9,000 hryvnias for one jaw.

Metal braces - reviews

Of course, opinions about the effectiveness of the device prevail. Both specialists and users of braces have no doubt that metal braces allow you to cope with an incorrect bite, regardless of the age and size of the problem. However, opinions about the aesthetics of metal braces are also widespread - without a doubt, they are much more noticeable than porcelain or crystal braces, so the user must get used to a "steel" smile. A porcelain-metal partial appliance or a crystal partial appliance can be inserted. In such cases, porcelain or crystal braces are installed on the front teeth, and metal braces on the other teeth.
However, it is worth facing mental discomfort, because the main goal is effective treatment, and if this is not possible, it is worth using an alternative in the form of, for example, crystal braces, which are practically invisible on the teeth (but at the same time their price is higher!).

How to care for metal braces?

The basis is, of course, frequent and regular brushing, but you should also pay attention to eating in small pieces, not to eat anything too hard and not to chew gum!

Is it more difficult to eat with metal braces?

Maybe not so much harder as it takes a little practice. At first it can be more difficult, because the food has to be broken into small pieces, but with time everything becomes normal. Just remember what we wrote above - when using metal braces, you can't eat everything, because it can negatively affect its work.

Should you invest in metal braces?

The only opinion is that it is definitely worth it. Metal braces are a traditional solution, but still ideal for orthodontic treatment. It is effective in the treatment of various types of malocclusion, does not cause much discomfort, and its price is very attractive. Of course, it will not provide such excellent aesthetic values as crystal or porcelain braces, and this is worth remembering if we take care of a beautiful smile also during orthodontic treatment.
